Kratom Addiction – How Addictive is it?

By | June 5, 2014

Will buying kratom and consuming it lead to addiction in the long run? Surprisingly, the answer is both yes and no. The level of addiction will depend on the Mu and Delta receptors in your body. Smaller dosages influence only the Mu receptor, which is something you seek to curb physical addiction.

While primary alkaloids are structurally in the same ground as psychedelics, ingesting kratom appears to not trigger any psychedelic activity. The powerful effects are similar to that of opiate drugs and consist of suppression of cough and analgesia. The properties are roughly similar to the same strength as codeine. Mitragynine inhibits opiate withdrawal but its influence isn’t overturned by its antagonist, nalorphine.

Such opiate-resembling effects seem to be facilitated by delta and mu opioid receptors. In minimal dosages, mitragynine binds to alpha-adrenergic receptors and also sticks to the delta opioid receptors.

As dosages increase or one is on its way to a near kratom overdose, the union to the delta receptors rises and in higher dosages, the crossing over to the mu receptors happen. But interestingly enough, the jump is further enhanced with opiate drugs. Even though selective delta receptor opiate products have minimal abuse risk, it seems they could be utilized in getting mitragynine to strongly stick to the mu receptor. This facilitates into that euphoric feeling made by narcotics like morphine.

Other effects of mitragynine include reduced muscle tone, localized anesthesia, and depression of the central nervous system. Known side effects consists of dry mouth, frequent urination, appetite loss, and constipation evident with small, black stools. But unlike that of opiates, mitragynine doesn’t seem to trigger vomiting or nausea to the same degree as opiate narcotics. Heavy usage can lead to extensive sleep.

There are a number of kratom benefits when used properly and little chance of you being addicted to it (although there’s a possibility you could be). Stray away from daily kratom intake, ideally no more than a couple sessions per week. This keeps your tolerance minimal and help you appreciate kratom products like the Green Malay or the Red Vein Borneo.

A basic leaf kratom is a recommended choice for most users to curb addiction. You’ll appreciate its effects when ingested. Aside from being completely natural, it offers a number of health benefits and positive effects for the body.

With rare usage, kratom can be slightly addictive but withdrawal will occur if used frequently. Some withdrawal symptoms reported by extremely addicted users include wet nose, fatigue, depression, aggression, inability to perform, fidgety, and teary eyes. It resembles to that of a severe caffeine withdrawal.

Individuals with a kratom addiction or in the process of withdrawal have been indicated as possessing good mental and physical health. While kratom is widespread in Malaysia, it never received a negative reputation and kratom addicts didn’t exhibit any significant behavioral or mental changes.

While the addicting properties of kratom are minimal and withdrawal symptoms are never in the same level as opiates, crack, alcohol, or other hardcore drugs, it’s still important to pay heed to the dosage guidelines and strictly adhering to them. This will reduce any chance of severe kratom addiction.
